Westby to Alma
Well, we thought we were going to get good views of the Mississippi along the scenic river drive, but up to this point we've mostly been inland and away from the river. At a wayside (Wisconsin for reststop) a dude trying to clean his dirty feet told me once we got past the town of Alma we would start getting more views.
The bike ride today was pretty uneventful. By noon we had gotten 50 miles in and it took us until 5:30 or so to do the remaining 39. Once the heat sets in, the will to bike fast fades and each break with decent shade gets longer. Even with that we put quite a few miles in and are set for a ride across the border and into the Twin Cities area tomorrow.
Our stopping point for the night is St. John Lutheran Church in Alma. Pastor Joel was kind enough to let us setup our tents behind the church. He used to minister at the church we stayed at in Westby last night, so the unintended connection worked out well.
Tonight was our fourth night, which means we went out instead of cooking. We hit up a nice little place in town where I inhaled a pint of cole slaw, a cheeseburger, ranch fries (JoJo's), crackers, and two glasses of ice tea. I still might get some dessert at the Kwik Trip at the end of town.
As I mentioned tomorrrow is St. Paul, MN. We will be staying with Gary & Joyce, relatives of mine. They live outside of St. Paul in Woodbury, so we won't have to fight with any city traffic. Can't wait!
